Geometry Selection

Introduction

This topic will explain the Re/Select Geometry dialog for the Facing Feature, and will provide links to related topics.

The Feature Geometry Picking Dialog

The first step of the Mill Facing Wizard is to assign geometry for the feature. All operations in the feature are performed on the selected geometry. This can be a single entity or multiple entities . The Geometry Selection dialog box appears similar to the following.

Stock Type

The first step is to define the overall shape of the stock by selecting the Stock Type. All definitions are explained in this topic. To jump to a particular stock types definition, click the associated icon in the table below.

SWRectIcon.jpg Job Stock

Compares the selected workpiece to the current stock used for the job. By default this is the option that is used without the need to enter the dialog. When selecting a Mill Facing feature, if you intend to use the workpiece and stock, simply click Next>> on the Geometry Selection page of the Mill Facing Wizard.

Feature Parameters

  • Recalculate - When a workpiece has been selected for the job, this recalculating will compare the workpiece to the currently selected stock type and reset the Top of Feature and Total Depth based on those selections. When no workpiece has been selected, the Top of Feature, and Total Depth values are left alone.

  • Top of Feature

- Enter a value in the text field, or use the steppers to set the top of feature. This will be the height at which the Rapid Plane, and the Feed Plane are calculated from.

(Pick) - Select geometry to set the value of the Top of Feature.

  • Total Depth

- Enter a value in the text field, or use the steppers to set the depth at which the final cuts are made.

(Pick) - Select geometry to set the value of the Total Depth.

SWSolidBodyIcon.jpg Solid Body

Compares the Workpiece to the selected Solid to create feature geometry.

  • SWSolidSurfaceIcon.jpg Solid Body - is used to select a solid body to define the stock. The selected geometry displays in the Solid Body box.

STL File

  • Browse - displays the Open dialog box for you to locate and open an .stl file which is used to create the stock geometry. There is an informational display to show the file name of the file currently in use.

File Unit

  • When the dialog opens you will be able to select the unit type in which the .stl file was created: millimeter or inch.

SWWireframeIcon.jpg Wireframe

Allows the user to select a wireframe loop as he would for any 2 Axis feature.

  • Selected Items - lists the entities selected for the wireframe loop.
